Re: Goldiec

BC-A, oh my, I'm worried about you!  I saw on the weather channel that you were going to get hit hard with the snowstorm!  Try to stay warm.

Goldiec

I'm trapped by the Nor'Easter snowstorm, still falling, blocking the door, and it's freezing.

Re:

Kabu, it's so cold where you are.  I wonder how the deer manage to stay warm with the snow and low temps.  A few times the deer have come up near the house to eat some of the birdseed that has fallen on the ground.  Our birds are messy eaters.  What can I say???

Re: There is a very large herd of deer that has claimed some of the

Pat, I love the deer but we have to keep everything fenced in so they won't eat our plants.  Our deer like to stay in the woods but if we put bread out you can see them as they come out of the woods to have their treats.  Our deer are so spoiled. We do worry about them when it's this cold.

Re: Re: Re: Thank you. We are both great home cooks.

Sassy, it's taken me a long time and I'm still learning different techniques to cook.  The Food Network has really taught me a lot.

Sassy, I'm so excited to see what you and John do with your village.  The bridge will be awesome!  You are both so much fun!

deer do very well up here even though we have so many frozen months. They seem to dig through the snow and find food. They also come here and nible some of the seed I put out for the birds.

There is a very large herd of deer that has claimed some of the

woodlands on the SIU campus as its habitat. Every autumn there are accidents where the deer run across the highways nearby and get hit - especially around sunset - during their "twitterpated" season. At times you can see half a dozen or more of them grazing in some of the restored prairie grass areas - people in neighborhoods bordering the campus complain about the deer eating their flower gardens, etc.

It has only taken me 30+ years to hone my skills, but I finally made it. Lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Thank you. We plan to expand it this year.

John and I are going to build the fairies a bridge that will allow them to travel from one side of their small village to the other, which for them would be a few miles. We plan to place the bridge through the split at the base of our Japanese Elm. John built a wooden bench that surrounds the tree, so we will be able to sit and converse with the little people.

Sassy, I know they are!  I cannot wait to see the pictures!  You have the best fairy garden for miles around.

Re: That will be a hearty dinner. I haven't had stroganoff in years.

Sassy, your meal sounds delicious.  I love homemade sauce.  I always make homemade and it really makes a meal.

Re: We buy those sunflower seeds too. They are $20 per bag, but worth it.

Sassy, Roy puts sunflowers in the garden almost every year.  They grow so tall.  I love them.  The year before last he put them all along the back fence.  They were really nice.

My fairies are getting anxious.

That will be a hearty dinner. I haven't had stroganoff in years.

My mom used to make it. I love the creaminess from the sour cream. We are having ravioli and cheesy toast. The only homemade part of our dinner will be my sauce. I mince my garlic, dice my onions small, add oregano and basil, and I use canned Cento, San Marzano tomatoes.

Sassy, I'm so happy it's February!  Soon you will be putting together your Fairy garden!

We buy those sunflower seeds too. They are $20 per bag, but worth it.

During the summer they draw in the Finches. We plan to plant sunflowers this year, but we only have the choice of facing them east or west. The best place for them is to face south, but that isn't an option for our yard. We planted them a few years ago and they grew to a height of like 8'. We dried the heads and roasted the seeds that weren't ravished by the birds. This time they will be for my feathered friends.

Re:

FSI, thank goodness the vaccines are working against the South African variant.  We have it here too but I think the variant from England is headed our way.

I saw Maryland itself has the South African variant. So far, the good news is that it seems like the vaccines we have do work against them.
