Oldie but goodie, indeed...!  I am counting this as one of your best. What I understand of poetry generally, is that it uses few words and many images to touch the heart and provoke thought. You are a true poet.

Re: Kabu

Yes I know it was very hard graft working land. I suppose folk just got on with it and hoped for better times.

Re: Pat

The trouble was I suppose education was expensive. Many families relied on older children to supplement the meagre wage of the Father. My Mother could have trained to be teacher but there was no money as she had to reveal.

Dressing for the occasion can be costly and unreasonable at times.

A hungry belly does not care about the latest fashions that make very little difference on a test score anyway.

Life can be hard and it has a way of teaching us lessons.

This is so nostalgic and so immediate all at once. I think many of us

may wonder what would have happened if only we'd taken the other path.  Poverty in childhood lingers in the mind throughout life, even after one can toss last year's fashion without a second thought.

We talk about the good old days...my parents had things tough. Born in 19-09 Mother; and 19-11 Dad. They worked hard on the family farms. Fortunately they were both happy on the land but Dad would never have a horse on his own property. He had spent too many years working a team of horses.
