I am so sorry for your loss. That was a horrible way to die. There are many coal mining disasters where those men lost their lives. My hubby works with coal. Luckily, he showers before coming home.

My Grandfather that immegrated from Bohemia was a coal miner and my uncle began working in one when he got old enough. My Uncle died in the coal mine when he fell in one of the shafts and broke his neck. He left wife and three children (my cousins). The last time I saw either of them was when I was six years old. My Grandpa looked like that man whenever he came home from work. They fixed him up a place to bathe and clean up in a shed outside so he wouldn't get the house all black.

This was a rough way for a man to make a living. A lot of the men got black lung disease and died. During the depression, life was so hard.
