Re: Re: Goldiec,

Ciel, thanks for the tips on cooking lamb.  I know my daughter-in-law used to make it at Easter but I've never made it.  I do see it in the grocery store though.  Do they have ground lamb? What type of Middle-eastern seasonings do you use?  I'm always interested in new seasonings.

Re: Sea Gypsy,

Not to worry--it's easy to confuse words like that!

Crepes can be great fun, making them either sweet or savory! I once did a crepes party, with Charlie making stacks of them, and I laid out a spread of both kinds of fillings for guests to choose what to fill their own with!

Re: Ciel - I meant no offense at all.

Make that “my sis.” Excuse the typos.

Ciel - I meant no offense at all.

I meant it as this definition: “2: one who is heartily interested in good food and drink,“ from Merriam-Webster. My thought was that your mom must have truly loved those tasty recipes she prepared, as well she should have. My mom was very intuitive and did her best to be sure her children would enjoy what simple fare she cooked. My sus would eat anything, though. lol. Daddy - I don’t recall much of the “special” foods since I didn’t care for them all. Ssalads, crepes, a paté. He made them for the nuns for special occasions. I liked his sirloin tips sautéd in wine sauce-and the crepes.

Re: sassyass,

Tonight maybe--We were out and about, mailing packages--those blankets to my two granddaughters in Seattle--and shopping for holiday decor, more dyes, and Charlie needed ink for his printer...  By the time we got home, my lower back insisted on sitting down for a while. No standing in the kitchen, chopping and cooking!

Re: Kabu,

I'd love to read a record of your travels, with all the details and experiences!

Re: Goldiec,

Last night's dinner got postponed: after an afternoon out and about I was pretty tired, and Charlie had other plans. I don't want to make this just for one!

Lamb can be very good, especially with Middle-eastern seasonings. The key to roast lamb is to cook it to pink, medium rare. I sometimes marinate lean lamb cut in chunks in teriyaki sauce, then skewer them and grill them over charcoal. Again, pink is the best, as overcooking makes it more tough and dry.

Re: Annicita,

I'll bet there could be a vegetarian version of this. For the sauce, I have vegetable broth on hand which serves as well as chicken. It would be tasty over steamed vegetables, I'm sure.

Do you use any meat substitutes?  My daughter served me some jackfruit once. I have also cooked with 'Impossible' plant-based meat, though I don't know if it would be firm enough to make these meatballs.

Re: Sea Gypsy,

A gourmand is someone who loves really good food, and eats way too much of it!  Mom was a gourmet, someone who loves to make really good food. Your mom sounds like a treasure! I don't think mine ever adjusted a thing in her life to suit a kid's taste! What kinds of things did your Dad cook?

Those sound divine! I love lamb. How lucky to have a mom who was a gourmand. My dad liked to cook as a hobby. I still recall his Escoffier cookbook. Mother cooked more simply but it suited me fine because she adjusted the flavors to each child's palate.

I do hope you enjoy them. I however, am a vegetarian.

Ciel, Greek meatballs in lemon sauce sounds incredible.  I know you are going to enjoy your dinner.  I've never cooked lamb but I'm sure it is very good.  Thanks for the recipe.  It seems easy enough.

They read just like the real thing which I used to so enjoy when I was in Greece. YUM.
