This lovely post is very thoughtfully and sensibly written. You are truly a person who gives consideration to all sides of a situation. I do the same. We need to not shame each other for our beliefs; we need to be tolerant and respectful; and we need to not erase what was but to build upon what we have learned.

And what's even sadder is that the ones who speak out against this are ridiculed and silenced in one form or another.

Some statues belong in Museums and in History books, not erased and forgotten. You have many good thoughts here. I have thought that trump was a flake and narcissistic ever since the 80's when he was big news in the tabloids. I could never have voted for him.
