TAPS is right! Maybe someone there will figure that out. Here's hoping this all is in the rear view mirror one day, sooner rather than later.

What they should have done was start paying you a salary instead of dumping you. Didn't they think of that? I know how you feel. I really, really enjoyed the volunteer things I used to do. It's been a long time now.

Knowing you it will be something that keeps you busy. Maybe you could join me in the down sizing. I do a small area each week or part of an area. Or there are always your hats that are so appreciated.

Oh dear so many things changed. Sadly to the worse.
I hope everything will be better soon.
Stay safe

Re: sassyass_64
In the past I've worked as a stringer (freelance) for local papers, doing just exactly what you suggested. The problem now is I can't drive at night and most meetings are after dark, especially in fall and winter. Still doing the weekly Write Your Own Story tips & topics for The Center - which appears on their Facebook page. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

With your writing talent, I can see why they asked you.
Maybe you could look into a part-time freelance journalism job for a community newspaper. Most towns and cities have them. Ours is always looking for writers to cover municipal meetings and local interest stories. With your experience, you could always write another book. Good luck to you.

Re: Re:Goldiec
Pat, I'm so glad to hear that there is a plan in place to check on all the seniors. It's such a hard time for seniors. Pat, thank goodness for people like you!

Re:Goldiec
The staff makes these kinds of calls and there are other groups here in town whocall and chat, and The Center's home delivered meals program will continue - which means those volunteers will continue to check on those who live alone. Good thinking, Goldiec.

Our seniors in 2020
Oh my! This is certainly a sad turn of events. Life has certainly changed in 2020. I believe the seniors really enjoyed getting out and visiting with friends. I wonder if the center could ask volunteers to call from home to check on everyone and make sure they had some sort of connection with others during the day. I think a phone call would be priceless for someone that lives alone. It could be a safety measure to make sure they are okay and if they need help then someone could arrange to help them. I know our Governor continuously mentions mental illness and what it will do to people that are restricted to the home.
