Re:

Kabu, thank you for sharing the story of your parents waiting to get married.  I'm sure it was hard on all the people that lived through the depression years.

Sounds very interesting. That period does have some interest, I think.

Enjoy your dinner, and have a wonderful day.

I didn't live through the depression but my parents did. They waited for years to get married. Dad had some land he farmed but there was no house on the land and they had to wait to afford to build half the house.

What interested me when I was nursing i had a group of the elderly that I used to have in a small group. We would have a cup of tea and I would read them stories that I wrote or from a book about the 20th century with pictures. All of them had lived through the depression years but they would NOT talk of those years.

Re:

C_C_T, when I was little my grandparents had this big old potbelly stove that you could keep a tea kettle on.  I used to watch my Grandma shovel coal into the stove.  She would always tell me to stand back while she filled it.  I can remember that it was bright red inside from the burning coals.  It sure did keep the farmhouse toasty warm.

Re: BBQ wings sound delicious. I am making spicy crispy chicken sammies.

Sassy, spicy crispy chicken sammies sound so good! Did you put your ghost peppers in them? Your guacamole sounds delicious!  I've never had raw spinach & V-8 juice.  Is it good?

Re: Oh lord, Goldiec, be careful and watch those hives.

Sassy, that is really terrible what happened to you!  When I was little I had asthma very bad and was in the hospital many times.  I had pneumonia three times when I was little and once a few years ago.  I was so sick!  I have some scar tissue in my lung from pneumonia. I graduated to sinus problems and now I just have allergies.  I found out some people just can't have dairy.  If I have dairy I get a terrible sinus headache. My hive is almost gone!  Stay safe!

Mostly everyone burned coal and paraffin. We had no central heating, my Dad used to wake me at 6am. We had a small black paraffin stove which he had lit earlier.

A little comfort for me was to stand close to the stove and pull my vest out so the heat would give me a quick fix..

BBQ wings sound delicious. I am making spicy crispy chicken sammies.

They are one of John's favorites. I will probably have raw spinach & V-8 juice with a side of guacamole and tortilla chips.

Oh lord, Goldiec, be careful and watch those hives.

Stress is horrible on the body. I broke out in hives back in 2007 from stress. It led to my taking a Z-pak, turned into bronchitis, and finally, pneumonia to which I was hospitalized for three days. From there I got adult-onset asthma and was given prescriptions for Singulair, Albuterol, Flovent, and Advair. It was a rough few years. I no longer have asthma, but I suffer from allergies. Be safe!
