Cards... I remember cards...

Don't do cards anymore. I send messages. My bedroom is nothing like my Mother's. She wasn't a very tidy person and I enjoy things neat around me.

I suppose the cards will come, all is inevitable. Kitchens have really changed.I wonder if there are still a few with a hand pump.

Sassy, I totally agree with you!  A warm and welcoming home is priceless!  I would use the bowls too!

Re: Re: I believe that I have a few on my Facebook page.

I sometimes post old photos for "flashback Friday," and "throwback Thursday."

John's mom gave me several bowls as well. They date back to the 50s. I use them even though I probably shouldn't. A home doesn't need to be fancy, just warm, and welcoming.

Re: Re: Excellent idea, Pat_B. Thankfully, we have the photos.

The house looks like something straight out of the Brady Bunch.

I put all my Christmas decorations, etc. in storage in St. Louis and I won't buy anything here.

Pat, I always say I'm going to do my Christmas cards early but it usually ends up that I'm doing them a little at a time till the week before Christmas.  I used to send out well over 100 cards at Christmas and then I narrowed it down to 50. That's how many I sent out last year.  This year I'm just not sure how many I will send.

I remember my mother's living room.  It was nothing fancy but it always felt like home.  We had a lot of my grandmother's furniture and dishes and I loved that.  When my Mom died I went to live with my Aunt and her living room was as big as a hotel lobby.  I loved that room.  The house was huge and everything was done to perfection.  I used to help my Aunt every week clean the house.  I never minded though because I loved the house and liked how clean she kept it.  My daughter and I were just talking about my Aunt's house the other day.  She remarked at how big it was.  We have a big living room but it's small compared to my Aunt's living room! I hope you have a good day!

Re: Sassyass_64

I hope you've included this anecdote in your memoir - it's just this kind of peek into your family life that will mean so much to your grandkids when they read it.

Yes, it is that time of year once again.

We send out roughly twenty Christmas cards every year to old friends and a few select family members. As for the story idea, I like how this one takes you back. It is great for jogging the memory. Growing up in my teens, my mother had a formal living room that was strictly used for entertaining company. I can still see it clearly in my mind. It was decorated with warm golden hues that was reminiscent of the 70s era. Thick shag carpet and the huge picture window with the heavy drapes layered over sheer curtains that were drawn back with brocade tiebacks held in place with fancy metal tiebacks.  If my friends and I would have been caught sitting on the furniture in that room, she would have skinned my hide. The family room was for watching television and playing the stereo.
