In my hometown, they switched the middle school to the high school, an older building, and built an addition on the middle school for one new high school.

FSI, this is a great post. It brought memories back to my middle school years. Our middle school grades were 7th, 8th, and 9th. Middle school was okay but I really preferred high school which was 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. My favorite class all through school was English. To this day I love English. I'm not sure why I love the written word so much but I do. My little ones love math and not one of them love English as much as I do. What was your favorite subject?

I experienced the exact opposite.
Our middle-high school became a four-year high school. We had three high schools in our large city of Klamath Falls. It came down to where you lived at the time. I would have preferred going to a two-year middle-school to prepare for high school, instead, the new freshmen were subject to "initiations" by the seniors. I lucked out and did not get put in the "freshmen filled garbage cans that were then rolled down the hall.
