Re: Re: It reminds me of a similar dish
Sassy, it was made with ground meat, flour and milk. They would fry the ground meat and then mix the flour with the grease and it turns into a gravy and you add milk. They would put it over mashed potatoes. I think this was a depression meal.

The first time I heard that term was in my writer's group. Mike, a army vet, wrote about it.

In grade school at the cafeteria was the first time I saw it. I thought they were serving barf! Hahaha. No offense. A kid’s mind. It actually doesn’t taste bad.

Re: Omg!!! That is hilarious. Thank you, FSI for sharing.
That would be a great Halloween prank.

Here's a story for you. My dad went into a diner and sat at the carryout row. They ordered chipped beef. When they got it, my dad pretended to throw up, and of course, when people looked they thought it was his barf. Then his friends started eating. They got thrown out.

I must say I have never heard of this meal. The nearest is corned beef we have a tin in the cupboard.

Re: It reminds me of a similar dish
I think it may be ground sausage and white gravy over biscuits. That is good stuff.

Sounds like a great recipe
Sassy, I have never made this meal but I remember having it once when I was young. It was good. There is another dinner somewhat like this that I will share. I believe that meal was from long ago too.

Ironically, the first time I tried this dish was in Oregon.
We did move to Oregon from Delaware when I was a kid, so it is possible that my mother took an east coast favorite out west.
