Re: Warm day today here in the Greater St. Louis metro area - 80 degrees

Pat, a day in the '80s in the middle of fall sounds wonderful.  When I read about your son's dog it makes me want another dog.  At one point we had 5 dogs and one by one they passed away.  I miss each and every one of them.  Roy said no more dogs but I would be happy if I had one.  I watch my neighbor's dog when they go away and she is such a sweetheart.

Warm day today here in the Greater St. Louis metro area - 80 degrees

plus, but it's going to yo-yo back to the upper 30s in the next day or so. I got a few leaves raked this morning, with the help of Miss Kaylee, my son's dog who's staying with me for a day or so while he's out of town on a business trip. She was a rescue dog who adopted him about 8 years ago, and has treated him very well all this time.

Re:

Ciel, we have woods on the property and Roy always picks up all the leaves and puts them in the woods for the animals.  There are a lot of trees in the woods too and all the leaves fall from them too.  We have big deer and baby deer that live in the woods and on really cold nights I always worry about them.  Our deer are so funny!  If we don't feed them for a few days they come up to the house looking for us.  I wish you could see the baby deer.  They are precious.  Thank you so much for the comment.

Re: Good luck to Roy. Those leaves just keep falling. Lots of work to be done.

Sassy, I can't wait till next spring when you relocated the Fairy garden.  It's going to be amazing!  I know you are going to have so much fun at the Halloween party?  Did you pick out your costume?  Are you having cake with a Halloween theme?

Sassy, it's actually sunny here and we haven't seen the sun in days!

Re:

FSI, that's really a good point!  Maybe COVID stays on surfaces longer than what they think.

If it's any help, certain naturalists are calling, even begging for leaves to be left where they fall, to the benefit of many small creatures who forage in the leaf litter, and who have dens that are protected by it from the deep cold.

Easy for me to say, I have no trees or leaves that I have to deal with.

Good luck to Roy. Those leaves just keep falling. Lots of work to be done.

We plan to take the fairy garden down this weekend. It will be the perfect time to do it before it becomes too cold. We are moving it to a new location next year. It will be under the huge Japanese maple tree that is surrounded by a raised wooden bench that John built for me. We are going to build the fairies a bridge that crosses through the split in the tree. We will add doors to the bigger branches, moss, and miniature rock pathways. Saturday night is the Halloween party. I will post pics on my Facebook for you to check out on Monday morning while you sip your coffee.

Perhaps with the COVID cases, it comes to surfaces. It seems like the science can't figure out how long it stays on surfaces.
