Sassy, Oh my! They should have had outhouses around the property and chamber pots for the guest's access. The chamber pots would have been easy enough to clean. I would not have wanted that job but somebody would have to do it.
This is awful to even think about! I would have figured out a plan long before it got this out of hand. I just can't even imagine and I'm sure they didn't have Clorox. I would have been carrying my Clorox spray bottle with me everywhere I went.

That's gross! I'm shocked they didn't have the sense to dig shallow ditches and enclose.
