Re: Uh oh, FSI, that would have startled me.
They are definitely dumpster divers.

Re: Oh lord, TAPS, I haven't had any issues so far with attacks.
We willingly feed them, and they have come to depend on it. We feed everything from the birds and squirrels to the raccoons, possums, and deer, just to name a few. Whatever finds its way to our yard is welcome to the vittles.

sassyass
I've had quite a bit of experience with marauding raccoons and o'possums and even skunks here in Missouri. PD (son) even had a go-round once with a raccoon that came after him and he had to fight it off with a shovel. Turned out the raccoon had rabies. That was about 12 years ago and apparently a one-time thing.

I would love to see the animals that you feed in my garden. I am afraid to put food out because folk feed birds and then stop and last year three rats came visiting.
They did not have a very good reception, although they appeared to be quite tame. Not like the rats one dealt with in the old days. I think they were used to folk putting out scraps for the birds or hedgehogs.

Back in college, I went to throw some trash into the dumpster. I saw something stirring and there was a racoon, who I had awakened from its slumber.

Sassy, oh my goodness! This is so cute! I know the baby raccoon should have waited for treats but he hasn't learned the rules yet! You will just have to post the rules so they can get to know what they are. Obviously, their parents are not doing a good job of telling them the way it is.
