Re: Pat
Yes there were lots of jokes about Spam I don't know quite what it was, but it reached a lot of consumers. Sadly Pat I was better a few years ago.

Re: adnhor
Yes we used to get bucketfuls of rain but this last year or so it has been terribly dry through the summer. The only reason I can think of for not have an hose ban is folk did not get out to buy plants and have not the desire to water the garden. A pity you are not next door I would trade you for a bucket.

I took a few days away but one gets drawn back to this dusty little part of the Internet where real friends meet.

I have 2 buckets here to sit on for musing - the perfect height too, so not much effort to stand up from them. I have never visited, but isn't your country known for its quantity of rain? Come to my mountains, stars seem very close here and it's rare enough the night clouds prevent us from seeing them.
Unless, of course, the Dunany Demons decide to cause mischief.

I had forgotten that Spam was wartime food. I remember mom
fixing it with a honey-mustard glaze and spicing it with cloves a time or two. The price of ham was so much higher, and Spam was affordable. I love the imagery in your poem, the stars reflecting on the calm water. So wistful. Nice work.

As for staring at the stars, that in itself is meditation.

This poem speaks many volumes and touches a lot of areas.
It was a very troubling time followed by victory and peace. A man finding himself after WWII had to be something. Most of the men were barely out of high school and were forced to take whatever job they could find. Along the way they learned new trades and had to create a career path.
