Yes, Annicita. The attack was due to ignorance.
They feared that the wagon train was not a friendly group, and instead of asking their intentions, the militia opened fire. It was a vicious attack on innocent people who were merely attempting to start a new life out west.

What humans do to themselves and to other species sickens me. No group or race is exempt from bloody torture and murder,not now not ever.As a psecies we find a reason or a led to believe that different in appearancem faith, or customs must be wrong!!

Massacre
This is the first time I've read of this attack and massacre. It is so sad to think of how these people felt when they were attacked and killed. I always thought the Mormons were peace-loving but evidently, I was wrong about a few of them. We've had the young Mormon girls come to our door. We are always polite and kind to them because they are on a mission far from home.
