What a vivid picture your story tells. I didn’t know that about potlucks hosted by the churches. Sundays were alway church and then relatives all day. Thank you.

The church socials were their highlights during those times.
No surprise with the bidding on the picnic baskets leading to a courtship. It would seem that men often look for those qualities in a wife who can cook. Back then I am guessing that it went hand in hand.

Such a much simpler time when people worked together to survive.
I am enjoying this story. Your details are the perfect addition so the reader feels like they are a part of the lives of the settlers.
