Re:

Sea_Gypsy, when I called the 800 number they told me how much I would have to pay it I didn't have the new meter and it was way too much money.

Years ago the gas company put them in. We got the letter and the cost to not have it was prohibitive. I think there is one here for electric as they monito our usage by the minUte. Not much one can do unless you go off the grid entirely!

Re: New Meter

Annicita, I pay the electric bill every month and had absolutely no idea we had a very old meter.  I hope this doesn't make my bill go up.

Re: Smart meter

I'm still not sure I should have had them install this meter.  I called the 800 number and said to the lady that I thought we had a fairly new meter and she said that actually, we had a very old meter.  I really didn't know that. Now she said we have a modern meter.  From her records, she said the old meter was installed when the house was built.

I have no idea since I don't pay the utilities here.

I think that Wiley refused to get one but I could be wrong.

Re:

I think my main concern is that I don't understand it

I keep getting messages but I ignore them. My brother has one and he is O.K. with it.

I suppose the worry is one might keep looking to see how much it costs to boil a kettle  etc.

Re: The Smart Meters ends the need for estimated readings and bills.

Sassy, do you think that's a good thing?

The Smart Meters ends the need for estimated readings and bills.

It is the companies way of tracking your usage for free.
