Corbin, I think it was amazing that the church survived!  There are so many strange events that happened that day.  I watched the news coverage for days and I was just sick over it all.

St. Paul's Chapel in Lower Manhattan is best known today as the 'Little Church that Stood,' having survived unscathed as the World Trade Center towers came down across the street

Another strange thing......

Manhattan's oldest church is getting ready to celebrate its 250-year history, which has seen worshipers ranging from George Washington to those who searched for victims following the September 11 attacks.

St. Paul's Chapel in Lower Manhattan is best known today as the 'Little Church that Stood,' having survived unscathed as the World Trade Center towers came down across the street.

A months long interior renovation of the Episcopal sanctuary will be unveiled on its anniversary date October 30, along with a '9/11 Chapel of Remembrance' area for quiet reflection that also contains artifacts of the attacks.

And the New Tower is in the background of the church!

Re: We are headed to Assateague Island this weekend.

Sassy, I know you will have so much fun.  Is it just you and hubby or are the kids coming?

Re: Re: Re: New York

Corbin, that is so strange!  I just don't understand it.  There must be an answer but I don't know what it is.  I've heard strange things like this before.  I have to shake my head in wonder.  Maybe someday we will know the truth.

Re: Re: New York

Well....NYC today is not the NYC of the past.   I loved going all over the city.  I always used the same guide every time.  We would even walk our group across the Brooklyn Bridge.

I love the Catherdral of St John!  Especially the front entry carvings....check this out!

#182: The Apocalyptic Pillar

apocalyptic pillar saint john the divine

The Apocalyptic Pillarat the Cathedral of St John the Divine is eerie as it was a premonition of 9-11 and the World Trade Center attack.

On the entrance of the Cathedral, stonemasons had sculpted numerous scenes that seem odd for a Church. What is chilling is that there is a depiction of the destruction of New York and its famous landmarks like the Chrysler Building, the Citigroup Center and the Twin Towers. What is eerie is that it was created in 1997, four years before the destruction of the World Trade Center.

So why was this depiction carved onto the Cathedral in the first place? It’s said that St John the Divine, wrote the Book of Revelation in the Bible which describes the events of the apocalypse in symbolic imagery. This Apocalyptic Pillar, carved on the entrance depicts New York as being “Babylon the Great”, the city who gets destroyed by the wrath of God.

Another odd thing to find inside the Cathedral, is a September 11th Memorial display by Meredith Gang Bergmann which is of a bronze statue of a woman holding planes in her hands. Below that is actual concrete and fabric from the rubble of the World Trade Center.

September 11th Memorial

What is eerie is that it was created in 1997, four years before the destruction of the World Trade Center.

How could that be?????

We are headed to Assateague Island this weekend.

I cannot wait to see the horses on the beach. I will post pics when we get back.

Re: New York

Corbin, I'd never be able to find my way around New York.  I have absolutely no sense of direction what so ever.

Re: Hotels

Corbin, I'm not sure which hotel it is.  I know there's a hotel attached to Tower City but I think that might be newer. You really got to go to a variety of places.  That is amazing.

It's a good thing you're not in NYC!

Re: Labor Day weekend

FSI, I know what you mean.  I haven't been right since we missed Easter and I was off on when Labor Day was too.  I think COVID has caused too much dishevel in everybody's lives.  Memorial Day, 4th of July and now Labor Day and we are still living through this nightmare.  We've got Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas coming. I wonder what they will be like?

What's the name of the hotel in the downtown area.

We stayed there 3 nights with busloads of Kentucky Basketball fans. It was connected to the Basketball arena.

Our Travel Company was called  "Travel Crazy"  We would follow  The University of Kentucky basketball team to road games. We would fly our fans if the games were in Las Vegas.  By motorcoach Every year games in NYC at Madison Square Gardens,

Other tournaments were on Maui  (2 weeks)  Alaska (1 week) in the Carribean, on several different Islands, (1 week)

It's hard for me to believe Labor Day is this Monday, probably because of COVID and how late it is this year.
