It's a catchy tune. The song came out before I was born, so I was not alive to see the controversy so to speak. I say the song still very much applies to these days.

My mom is only 5'2" and her great grandmother was only 4'9"

Well thank you dearest girl. I am 5 ft 1". That song used to make me mad because in 19-77 I was a grown woman with two little boys and a difficult man child to take care of. I had no idea until I read you here and found out that was a pretty big message that was being sent out. Maybe a different word to short would have helped.
