All this i believe is true. I have seen marriages that were barely holding together for years, then comes retirement and almost overnight the marriage is strong again. of course if there is no real structure left it sadly can fold and disappear very quickly.

Communication, kindness and respect are huge benefits to a healthy marriage
Your post is an amazing reflection of that. We have learned along the way to use the word, "we," instead of, "you" when discussing uncomfortable subject matters. It has worked for over 34-years, so we must be doing something right. We have a really stable marriage that is filled with lots of laughter and good times.
