Although most mines have been closed down, the steel mills still depend heavily on coal for production.

Talk about a rough place to live. I could never do the coal mine thing or handle those kinds of living arrangements.

There is a lot of steel mill, coal miners and railroad workers in our area. Today, the money is really good.

Living the life of a coal miner was not an easy lifestyle.

A Company Town I've heard of but never this. It's horrid. The bottom picture is heartbreaking. I think of those poor children... And the mine owners raked in profit and owned the souls of the workers...

OMG clothes freezing in the hanging spaces, dripping walls. my life has always been blessed is all that I can say.

Re: No air conditioning, but at least they have the pool.

Thankfully, the company houses in most patches have had much needed updates.
