Being a Marylander, I've experienced plenty of I-95, I-83 (a Baltimore to Harrisburg route) and I-70. I-66 has always me struck as eerie from afar.

Joe Love and I did it from St Louis To the end in California in our red open-top jeep!  It took an entire week, so many wonderful things still there from the early days. There are several great travelogs online to be able to see it all on your TV.
