I have always tried in earlier years to read books that show one how to write grammatically . The best hint I ever had was never forget the something, but I honestly cannot remember what it was. Although I think it was never forget the normative.

Pat - Thank you for the tip.
It sounds like a good book, and if I ever read one more book on writing I’ll be sure to choose that one. Long, long ago I had read several books on writing using various genres, techniques and voices, but basically they each seemed to convey the same message to me, which I have forgotten! (I’m joking.)
