I always check out their profile first before accepting them
If you have no mutual friends, then that is a red flag unless it is someone that you knowingly met at work or elsewhere and you are expecting them to send a friend request. I also enter their name on the address bar in Facebook to see how many profile pages that they have. People get hacked all of the time. They attempt to get to you through friends too. I have only had this happen a few times, and I immediately report it and then block them. You never can be too safe.

I Googled the name "Eric Benedict" and sure enough some of the details
from the contact I rec'd on facebook were there. But the photo didn't match. The more I check this out, the more confident I feel that the jerk who tapped into my FB posts
is a con artist of some kind.
