I remember that time. My little cousin got it as a baby. I remember my dear sweet Auntie crying and worrying. She (the baby) survived with one-arm/hand weakness but most people would not even notice.

Polio wreaked some havoc back in the day. Why anyone wouldn't want to get a vaccine against it is beyond me.

You reminded me about the fear of that disease. My dad (and mother) wouldn't let us get vaccinated in the early days of polio vaccine. In the beginning, before it was refined, I think there were some peope who experienced negative effects. At one point I did get a sugar cube of one dose, but didn't go back for the second one. My sis, brother and I are highly allergic and sensitive to meds. I do get the flu vaccines though. My SIL was in an iron lung with polio, but did recover.

Mother wouldn't let big Sis and myself go to the city for a couple of years in the fifties. When we did go anywhere she had made little bags on ribbons filled with Camphor and we had to sniff the Camphor all the time to keep the polio away. Polio is still out there, in the air but with vaccines, we can all rest over that one.

Seems we will all just be holding our ground until a vaccine is developed for this new virus.
