Re: CCT
Your mother and mine were probably in the same generation, mine said similar things. She said she'd had to help around the house & with the younger children from the time she was able to remember - and was not shown love in her childhood. You're right about them (and us, too, probably) doing the best they could.

Your Mother was a good woman Pat. She was just unlucky and times were hard.
It is a job to be carefree and joyful when so many demands are made on one.
My Mother told me she did not know how to be loving as she had never been shown love in her childhood. She always did the best to her ability and I guess your Mum did the same.

My same age cousin and I sang this together at a social night in our district hall. We turned our backs to each other and stamped a foot in supposed anger. Dressed alike and Mother sewed us pinafores identical. Long ago memories and with Wendy dead these last 15 years, I am the only one with the memory.

I don’t know that song but it sounds effective! My mom would talk about cellars and sometimes would call the garage, which she pronounced as “gahr-age” with the accent on the first syllable, the cellar.

That does sound like the catchy tune...I guess Mom had different reasons at time for singing it.

Everybody had cellar doors back then. I love the old songs we sang as kids, and those we jumped rope to. Do you remember "Flo, Flo, Floffa Floffa Dory..."?
