I love this poem.  It made my day.  It made me forget about the gray clouds and the drizzle coming down and that it seems cold in here.

The older crystal radios had a very long-range...Lots of communication between the U.S. and England during both of the big Wars...

It must have been tempting for your dad. I’ve heard of radios with crystals but have never seen one! How interesting. And making a camera! Wow!

Your father was an honest man. What a great man he was.

Re: Corbin

I suppose in years past children listened to the old one's tales. I think I was about the only one to remember these events, because I was at times nearer to the old ones.

Re:sassyass 64

Sadly not many children learn much about the family history. Well I have found that so. Perhaps you are gifted and tell your children

Re Pat

Well Pat it is surprising ,Most of my cousins have said they know very little about the families history. One incident stands out though and descendants have come from

USA Canada etc. Myths endure.

Some of this post reminds me of stories my mother and her

sisters used to tell about goings-on in their mother's house and the homestead. Superstitions about weird things that can cause farm animals to die, etc... Very interesting.

These are such lovely family stories. We need to tell our family history to the next generation to keep it carrying on. Coal workers were some of the hardest working laborers back before modern equipment came along.

I loved this and devoured every word. I really have always been a history buff but one seldom hears much about the ordinary folk.
