Yes, I’ve “seen“ Alcatraz many, many times but have never had the desire to go there. It’s creepy from a distance, or even seeing it from the Bridge. I’ve seen shows on tv about it’s horrors. And some still think one person may have gotten away successfully!

I used to live just a few hours from Alcatraz in Merced. I love San Francisco for a visit, but living in California takes a special kind of mindset.

I visited Alcatraz a few years ago. It horrified me, as did the stories of so many of the inmates. As a female though I was able to distance myself from the real feel of the torture island; but not so many of the men. When the locked us all into a cell and the doors locked with a double clunk clunk some of the men asked immediately to be released. As thought they felt something that I didn't. And of course no woman was incarcerated there.
