Re: Pat - A Fascinating Dream

RPresta, thank you for your clear response. I agree with you - I know intellectually my mother walked through fire for us kids, that she fiercely protected us from the slings and arrows - I don't know that I could have done what she did.

Pat - A Fascinating Dream

It is said that children who have beeen mistreated never stop wanting the love and approval of the offending parent(s), and though rationally and intellectually they understand that may not ever be possible, emotionally the desire is still there on some level. The venom that stung you years ago is still probably brought to your pre-conscious mind at times and then manifests in this type of dream. I think if you look at some key the phrases in the first three paragraphs you may see that events from your life today, combined with certain times from your past, mingled and brought on the dream. Perhaps it isn't you who needs to change; it is that the memory of what happened to you in the past won't change. You don't have the answers for that, and that's okay. But I do believe Mother loved you as much as she was capable of doing so.

Re: C_C_T

Thanks CCT - for the reminder about why she was the way she was. Sometimes what comes back to mind is her perfectionism and the sense there was no pleasing her - which was as tough on her as it was on the rest of us.

Of course your Mum had her share of problems. It is tough to feel loving when one

has anxiety. I still like the picture of her .(read your book.)  I used to feel the same about my father. I suppose we look at it with childlike memories and it feels so real.

Oh wow. Dreams like these are hard to get past, but there appears to be a definite message there for you to figure out. Draw off of the other key object's in the dream that appear with your mother, and you may find the entire purpose of the visit.

I've had many dreams that make me think. It's fascinating how people are portrayed in them.
