When there was nothing else, really nothing else, pioneers twisted straw into 'logs' to fight back the cold.

Re: Pat

Re: shamasehar
Thank you. We are relying on wind power and solar quite a lot, but when the wind drops and the Sun doesn't shine it tells.

My brother used compressed paper until one home made sample started to come out of the chimney alight.

Thank you. I suppose wood lasts longer if it is damp.

Great poem! How many masks we wear. And what's with Archie? You can't burn wet lumber.

When we used to heat the house with mostly a woodstove and fans, we burned those pressed sawdust logs. They burn hotter, longer, cleaner than cut wood, though they seemed more expensive. In the long run, I think the heat worked out to the same cost.

That is a tedious job. Gotta watch out for wood that has been treated...definitely not good for burning.

I've never sawed wood in my life. It's not something that appeals to me...The pump jumped out at me due to the car wash nature.

A nice little glow in the fireplace on a damp winter's evening makes
for contentment. Paying the asking price for the wood is a good idea. :)
