It truly is great to give. The feeling is so rewarding...This is the first year that I heard of yesterday being Giving Tuesday.

In the library, the security guard worked hard to accept the coins of a homeless man for a candy bar. Later, I saw him, siting in a bench at night. He chewed really enjoying it luv.

You are so right about doing hand's on, TAPS. I worked with the homeless for 4 years in Montreal, driving or walking around the streets during the nights handing out food, hot drinks, warm socks, boots, sweaters, and sometimes what was needed most was a big hug and a smile of recognition on sight. It's not something every person is at ease doing, but for those of us who can, it is so very welcomed. For those who can't, the donations and help given behind the scenes are grandly appreciated also. And it is one way to be assured that the right people are the recipients, not an overpaid CEO of a huge 'charity'.

Re: C_C_T and Pat_B

Yes, yes, yes.  They definitely do over do the mail requests.  It is quite disgusting at how quickly they pile up.  I just now brought in twelve requests from the mailbox (of course with address labels or calendars or little note pads or something) and that is an everyday occurrence.  I guess that goes with the territory.

There are so many appeals nowadays - and once we donate to a

charity, it seems they share or sell their mailing lists and we hear from a dozen more. I've taken to tossing all but one or two of the ones that come in the mail box, even though the need is great and the causes worthy.

I'll admit it is hard to pass any person who is one way or the other asking for money. The trouble with a lot of charities they keep sending  for money when one has given some.
