Re:

Well the trouble is our dahlia corms have grown so large as a rule they will over winter here especially if we cover them with a pot. We usually dig a few up and keep in a frost proof place and then take cuttings in the spring.

Re: Most of the greenery around my foundation, etc., is bayberry shrubs,

I expect they would be a tough problem to root out, but still it could be worse, mind the thorns

Most of the greenery around my foundation, etc., is bayberry shrubs,

which need only a bit of pruning each year - I wear gloves to pick up the leavings because they're thorny. If I'd picked the plantings they'd have been evergreens, something that gives off a fresh scent when it rains, but these were here when I moved in.

Does it make you feel like an executioner?   "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!"

Yes, I bet it is a messy job. Time to slow it down. Archie isn’t much help these days. A thought-provoking, lovely poem.

Quite a thing to say it in poetry.

I thought dahlias could be overwintered by digging out the bulbs or corms or whatever they are. Charlie has one he is wondering what to do with.

Anyway, it sounds messy.
