Well RP the old way was to make a roly poly pudding. It was a long section of pudding .
One end was filled with jam about half way and the other half was packed with pig meat. Sounds horrible but it served two purposes . In poor families a woman told me her Mother would ask which end was desired for dinner and not to ask for more.

Mothers have their ways of turning children in the way they want
them to grow... I never wanted to shoot at a bird, but a rat? Now that's a whole 'nother thing, and in my view a worthy target. Shame on me.
