My home life was not supportive like that, and the bullies at school reinforced messages I got at home. It was many years before I learned why my stepmom was the way she was: her childhood had been far worse than mine with parents who were selfish and self-involved. She couldn't show love easily because she didn't know what it looked like.

I visit your wordpress blog often. You are a very good writer. This poem you mention here is especially informative and relative to the world of humans. I have run into a bully or two in my lifetime but my mother taught me when I was young that the problem was theirs and taught me how to be strong in the right way.

and it came out saying more. Funny how that happens... Hard to just copy over without new thoughts arising.
