This poem is definitely one of the greats in English and your post to bring it to our attention and let us revisit Gray's work, is exquisite. Many thanks to you. Expressing genuine sympathy is an art, and describing one expressing genuine sympathy is an ever greater art.

Dear teacher...
Have you ever read "The Tin Flute" by Canadian author Gabrielle Roy. It is an old book from about 1948 but manificent.

Of course I wished (to read it once again). It felt like going home for a visit. It always makes me feel that he was describing my attempts to write poetry when he wrote of those "uncouth rhymes". Your post was a great addition to his elegy.

Yes well researched . There is a kind of melancholy which many would feel I suspect, if surrounded by old memories in a village grave yard. Not least the reality of dreams and desires that one seemed so important. Thank you describing emotions that linger in us all.
