CCT - I think in the case of a parent it is a bit different.
I was thinking more of adults other than parents, and I'm sure your parents did the very best they could do. My own mother "made" me promise something: to not smoke. So you see, that's fine. Parents now will tell their children to promise not to text and drive. That's also fine.

Re:RP
RP thank you, the promise I made was ridiculous, but it was to you know who. I understand your view of parent manipulation and agree wholeheartedly. My parents were OK. but my Dad died young and we had a job to get over the loss.

RePat
At least we are looking forward Pat , I like watching the plants grow and the first bloom.
I am trialling some Mexican Sunflowers this year they do not like my ground somehow but they are fine in the tunnel.

Re: Corbin
Painfully Corbin I have to wash my trousers each day they get wet and muddy. The hose does not emit a very fast stream of water so I have to hold a thumb over the end to
make it efficient.

I saw a neighbor using a garden hose to water some plants. I was surprised because rain is consistent.

The garden hose can act like a child. And, water's so symbolic in cleansing spiritually as well sir.

I think the tired aches we get from gardening can only be credited
to our desire for beauty. I believe it may be worth it. What child has not had such doubts about falling short, of not quite living up to promises made. I believe this is why my mother used to say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

CCT
It's always fun to watch the flowers grow. Each year is different, each season different. All bring beauty.
I realize it is only a poem, and a nice poem, but...a child can never be held responsible for that which has happened to him/her, including an adult eliciting a promise from a child. It is often a form of manipulation. Yet many adults carry these disturbing "programs" with them into adulthood, not realizing they are falling under the umbrella of victimization. To break free is to take control and if not emotionally, at least intellecually comprehend that one is not bound or defined by, nor a prisoner of, one's past experiences. Whew! I'll get off of my pulpit now. Take care.
