Re: christinadanderson

Ha' ha. Just wanted to be in pole position. Swung a large axe chopping wood in her eighties, perhaps she believed she was as good as most.

I like the part about in those days people growing old quickly. Very astute. It did seem like that.

Why would someone want to be a law unto themselves?

Re: Corbin

Those Shire horses especially. The railway used horses and fed them mainly from a selection of grains / They were very skittish I saw one run away pulling a large cart loaded with goods as if it was just going for a gallop.

Re:Pat

My family had its secrets like many others, but little boys had big ears. Yes Pat it is very wearing it takes me at least three hours to just keep everything alive we are in a valley and I think the storm clouds miss our patch.

That sounds incredibly painful. I've always kept my distances from horses.

Way back 70 years ago or so, my cousin Diane, an only child, got everything she ever wanted--she wanted a horse, and of course there it was, a real beauty.  She learned to ride and to care for it and loved it....until....   One day it suddenly whinnied and tossed its head to the side where she was standing, hitting her in the face and mashing her nose.  That was the end of that.  She decided she liked painting horses better than being buddy to one.  So the horse was sold and an art studio was added upstairs where she could paint to her hearts content.

A Clydesdale stepping on your foot would certainly hurt but Oh they are so beautiful.

I think there could be a chapter of Downton Abbey based upon

the reflection about Uncle and Grandpa and the Lady - some casual intrigue that so many take for granted, but a boy still wonders about many decades later. Seems strange to read of long dry stretches and needing to water - we've had one deluge after another in this part of the country - flood waters still high up and down the Mississippi and other linked waterways.
