I do sort of remember Spike Jones on TV. A little.Hitting things and singing?  The fishes, not so much. But that‘s only because my mom didn’t sing it. She sang “On Top of Old Smokey,” “Billy Boy, ”You Are My Sunshine.” I’ll stop now. Thank you.

I don't remember the fish one, but I still sing the chewing gum chorus to my Rugrats and great grandbabies!

I'd been away from radios and tv all summer, and first time I broke out the little transistor radio, the first song on was, "Oh, your red scarf matches your eyes...!"

and they swam and they swam all over the dam...

Are those songs really so old...no wonder my bones ache and my breathing is ragged on exercise. Age is going to make itself a nuisance soon I am afraid.

Re: FormerStudentIntern

My mom sang 'swam' too - but I seem to remember hearing it as a kind of baby talk on the radio.

Re: CCT

I remember the blue skies over, and Vera Lynn - we sang it when 'our boys' were over there and the blitz was on - London was catching hell from the V1 & V2 rockets. I think Lawrence Welk kept playing "Dear Hearts & Gentle People" for as long as he was on TV.  :)

Yes I remember quite a lot of your suggestions Pat. I must admit I had not thought of  until now.

One song that always stays in my mind. 'Blue skies over the white cliffs of Dover tomorrow just you wait and see.'Vera Lynn.'

Also one that nearly brought us to tears when we were newly enlisted and from a radio. 'Those dear hearts and gentle people who live in our home town.'

My mother used to sing that about the little fishies, except she would say swam instead of fam.
