Courtesies and manners have also gone the way of cursive and John Wayne. Schools as we know them are not teaching anything that they can't test for academically, and parents can't teach what they themselves don't know anything about.
This is, of course, the complaint of all elders down through the ages.

A lot has changed over the last decade or so due to technology. I myself was never a fan of writing in cursive because my handwriting is horrible.
Also, a lot of kids don't know how to address an envelope, for they will never send mail.

I’m with you. I hope the pendulum swings back to a teaching style that is different than what we have now. Happy Easter.

That reminded me Pat oinks years ago we 13 year olds waiting to leave school at 14.
A girl in the secondary class, ( not suppose to be quite as bright, or weaker in exams.)
Entered the Class .'Please Miss, my teacher would like to know the time.'
There was the large clock on the wall. 'You can now tell her.'
The teacher said. The girl stood looking downcast. 'I can't tell the time.'
Of course everyone burst into laughter. The teacher shouted at the class to be quiet.
She very wisely said 'I expect she knows things that you do not.'
