A very interesting post, and so true to life in my early years. We had an icebox instead of a refrigerator, an outdoor toilet, one window fan instead of A/C, a coal furnace in the basement with arms reaching out to various registers above and someone was always needed to go out in the cold and around to the cellar door, and go down to work at getting a good fire going. Most of the time it was mom who had to do that as dad had already gone to work. She was a hard-working lady at home.

I think you may be right that we've had the best years.

Well Pat someone said recently that todays new born will look back at cell phones and wonder what a strange way it was to communicate.. Somehow I think we may have had the best years , although we will stagger on for a few more I expect.

One of the worst beliefs in parenting in the last century is that children are blank slates to be written on as the parent likes--that they bring nothing of character or personality along with them when they are born.

I feel that the writer is one's harshest critic. A lot of people are hard on themselves.
