Sounds a bit dodgy I expect they have snow tyres ,but as you say it is not like sliding into a hedge. I hope all are safe now.

Skidding on ice on a flat expanse of highway is terrifying enough.
I'd have been a Jell-O brain for awhile if I'd been the one on the verge of a cliff... Yikes. Thinking about a Seattle coffee shop now, and will ponder it for awhile.
