Re: Shams
.... further I would say, alcohol, like your saki, can impart a wonderful feeling of well-being. That is why it is so popular. But is has nothing to do with TRUTH. I suspect there are similar mood-altering mechanisms on the spiritual side. They can be used for purposes of deception, and I think that they are. We must have other standards by which to discern TRUTH, not just that something makes us feel incredibly good.

The sufi master may have a valid point. A spiritual vision or experience sometimes overwhelms one with a feeling of euphoria and well-being (we are told). But so does a dose of LSD. So I am skeptical of this teaching. LSD is not imparting universal truth, it is just altering the chemicals in your brain. I am not invalidating your point, I am cautioning that there is fake 'truth' being peddled as TRUTH. This also happens in near-death experiences, where the subject returns with a glowing feeling of euphoria. It might be the spiritual version of LSD. So be careful!

A fine point, indeed, on the level of which youv speak/write. But, there is in this world, imho, some truth which can be spoken.
