I am a 'landlord' myself, for the other side of my duplex. I live on one side, and rent the other side. I am very glad you have a good 'landlord', who is responsive to your needs. I try to be responsive to my renters, but I could tell you some shocking stories about the weird renters I have had..... lying on rental applications, gunshot fired in anger, doors removed, spousal abuse (several times), child abuse, mailbox run over in anger, dogs chewing up everything (even chewing on the corners of the house), weird stains on the carpet that are not removable, candles alight everywhere.... making me fearful of a fire that would burn down the whole duplex..... and through it all, I have tried to be responsive to their needs.
What about that term 'landlord', anyway? Where does that come from? I do not feel like any kind of 'lord'. I do feel like an 'owner', a term which confers a keen sense of responsibility to me, as opposed to the majority of people who are not owners of their home. Too often, not being an 'owner' means a glaring lack of responsibility. They pay the rent, and they think that entitles them to abuse me. I am very glad that you are not in such a situation. You and the owners treat each other very well. Sadly, I think that might be rare.
