Even there along Hwy 12, the skies are not as clear and bright as they used to be. Too many cars in the cities have dulled them from the clarity they still had in 1976 when we moved to Seattle.

I used to love to look at the night sky - the prime advantage of living
at the ends of the earth - Salkum in the western Cascade foothills - was that millions of stars could be seen, and the constellations with the naked eye. Too much light pollution in my neighborhood to see any but the brightest these days...
