Great observation: creativity cannot be turned on or off, like the non-artist thinks. I appreciate your thoughtful comments!

This describes the novelist well. Us novelists wear a lot of mental hats that enable us to get the creativity flowing. Some hats, though, can't be found, which is why creativity cannot be turned on or off, like the non-artist thinks.
