Good luck with the cataract surgery--I found it much less daunting than I expected, and it has been a fine thing to have clear distance vision. I still need glasses for computer-distance reading, and got some cheap magnifiers for closer reading.
They gave me these cool see-through-pinholes eye protectors to wear the first week after surgery, which Charlie has since used for his weird buggy-face masks.
