Yes, you do have to have quite a lot of specialized schooling to be a pharmacist, although there are also pharmacy techs. Traditionally pharmacists knew more about drugs, their effects and interactions than doctors because that's all the pharmacists ever do, but I've run into one or two ignorant pharmacists. My favorite: the guy I overheard telling a woman that she wasn't lactose-intolerant if she could eat eggs because eggs were a "dairy product."

Yeah, I wonder what other drugs they don't understand? Don't you have to go
to school and understand all this stuff to be a pharmacist? PL
