Such a poignant post. It makes me feel sad thinking about you being separated from your mother even though you were being cared for by someone else. I spent one summer away from home with my grandma in Oklahoma and I was so homesick.

Kids pick up on way more than adults ever realize. Remembering that affected how I intereacted with my children. I'm sorry you had a childhood that was less than fair or pleasant. How hard to just maintain! But you did so well. We're all proud of you here.

Kids do have great intuition for knowing when something is wrong There were things I remember picking up as a kid that I doubt I would be able to pick up on now.
