I love idioms and love using them even though I try to be more original in anything I write.

thank goodness for idioms and slang it colors a scene a story a conversation. we had family sayings that mainly came from Mother.
As a girl it was unheard of for her or her sisters to say Tom Cat when talking about a male kitty. She was cross one day awhile chasing a fly and said to herself..." I'll get you you Tom, you tom, you Tom-digger" big sis and I collapsed laughing and a new family word was born.

Pat - idioms are so colorful...
I enjoy reading/hearing them. My smartphone isn't always so smart. Anytime you or anyone sees something "off" like that from me, it's usually that I didn't catch the word predictor. I thought I'd written about a tough "row" to hoe. Sorry about that. This was a fun post to read.

Did you happen to see that movie, GRUMPY OLD MEN? One of the Grumpies' even older Dads has a lovely time with idioms relating to sex. In fact, his voice-over in the credits just runs through a long list! Burgess Meredith is the actor.

My dad tends to use a lot of idioms. It adds a lot of favor to his speech.

Well I expect it will soon be cold enough for a walking stick. You can't teach your Granny how to suck eggs. A watched pot never boils. Some are quite cruel, I can't say i really took any notice of them in your book, so maybe they appeared as natural to some.
