Re: FS

Probably not FS I think it is something the supermarkets thought up as a lot of stuff is wasted by not conforming to standard.

Re: Pat

Yes of course if one pays top whack one deserves the best, but it is surprising how many will source cheaper ,if it is reasonable. Archie sells cheap bags of apples they have given the apple maggot a home, but it no longer in there.

Re: Ciel

You are right Ciel. One thing that used to puzzle me was at times a lady similar to a Duchess one come into the veggie store and I heard her once or twice ask the owner if he had any (  tired   asparagus) I realized she wanted some on the cheap. Yes i was young once.

Re: Kabu

Well a lot of stuff is not grown in soil and of course it is grown for presentation  and long keeping qualities.

In all my travels across America, I have to say the most beautiful veggies and produce hands down was in the neighborhood groceries in Manhatten......It seemed like since the ships came in their way, they got the first choice....the rest was sent to the heartland.

Re: C_C_T

Yes, here it's like some stores have no shame about selling "wonky" veggies. Others are quite pristine. I enjoyed your poem very much. Dreams so often disappear into a puff of air. Well told.

In NYC years ago, in Brooklyn, I went into a neighborhood grocery and saw there, presented for sale at regular prices, carrots that could be tied in bows, exhausted lettuces and cabbages, vegetables my mother would never have considered buying even at bargain prices. It was then I understood something of city life and poverty.

In cultures that have known starvation, nothing edible is wasted.

I'm loving the imagery of this poem, the sunshine and shadows.

The wonky veggies taste just as good when chopped in salads or

soups. But I do look for perfection when I'm paying a premium price for stuff in the produce aisle.

I haven't noticed any wonky produce at my local grocery store. They always seem to get the items to come out consistently...The sunshine does offer hope of a better tomorrow.
